First Mindfulness Clinic established in Ireland

mindfulness_thumbMindfulness is about learning to pay attention to our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and to the world around us – an awareness of ‘present experience with acceptance’ (Germer et al, 2005). This helps us to wake up to life, with greater awareness, curiosity, acceptance and compassion.

Research shows that Mindfulness is enormously empowering for people with chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders as well as for psychological problems such as anxiety, panic, stress and relapse prevention for people in remission from depression or recovery from addiction. ‘Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose in the present moment and non-judgmentally’ (Jon Kabat-Zinn).

The Oasis Centre, Seville Place, Dublin 1, will establish the first Mindfulness Clinic in Ireland in April, 2011. The service will be provided free to clients, participants and the voluntary sector.  This project is funded through Pobal with the support of the National Office for Suicide Prevention, the Department of Community, Equality and Family Affairs and the Department of Health and Children.
The Oasis Centre will provide the following eight-week trainings from April, 2011.
•    Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), for Anxiety, Stress, Panic, Chronic Pain
•    Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (MBCT)
•    Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, Recovery from Addiction (MBRP)
The Oasis Centre also provides half day and full day workshops for voluntary organizations and projects on:
Mindfulness-Based Self-Care (MBSC) and Introduction to Mindfulness-based Approaches (MBAs)
This new suite of training at the Oasis Centre will develop our outreach program in the areas of education, social care, health, and research.  The Oasis Centre will continue to provide low cost/no cost counselling to clients through Oasis Counselling and Therapy, Deora Counselling and Oasis Mindfulness Clinic.
Oasis Counselling Centre continues to welcome enquires from individuals, agencies, projects and the voluntary sector.
